The Painful Path

Pain Has Been My Teacher

I struggled with food, weight, and morbid obesity for decades. I know the pain and suffering caused by these things with every fiber and ounce of my being.

By the age of nineteen, I was 300 pounds.

This was my highest known weight—it was the max capacity of my scale, so I stopped getting weighed. I was in denial. I was in pain. I was neither alive nor dead, but somewhere in between—somewhere that was definitely much closer to dead.

“I was neither alive nor dead, but somewhere in between.”

Desperate for Relief

During this time, I sought help from dozens of external people, places, and things. The professionals were highly skilled and genuinely wanted to help me—but they all had one thing in common:

They didn’t have any firsthand experience with this struggle. They could only offer the science of diet and exercise.

“Unless you have lived it, you will never truly understand it.”

The Unspoken is Killing Us

I believe that anyone who struggles with food, weight, or obesity already knows a wealth of information about diet and exercise—we’ve been desperately researching it for years.

Unfortunately, knowledge isn’t enough. There’s internal work and healing to be done. I’ve never heard anyone really talk about this openly. I get it, it’s hard. It’s not glamorous. But the unspoken is killing us, and I think it’s time we do talk about it. I want to tell the truth.

“I have never heard anyone talk openly about this, but I want to tell the truth.”

The Good News

You’re not lazy. You’re not a poor dieter. You don’t lack willpower.

You’re stuck. I’ve been there.

The good news? You can return to life. There is a way forward.

People die from obesity and related complications every single day. I don’t know why I was spared—but I do know this: I will spend the rest of my life trying to help others find their way out too.

“All untreated feeling roads lead back to food.”
